The Trump administration is considering building a tunnel between the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway and the Queensboro Bridge, and a new $1 billion subway system.

The $1.6 billion tunnel, which will stretch from Queensboro to Astoria and eventually from Queens to Brooklyn, is being studied by a panel of federal officials and a state agency that is also looking at a tunnel under the Long Island Railroad’s North Brooklyn station.

The tunnel, the longest underground subway project in the country, is expected to be completed by 2024 and will span nearly three miles.

The tunnel’s estimated cost would be $1 trillion, according to a recent estimate by the National Institute of Standards and Technology.

While New York City’s subway system is expanding, the Long Beach-Long Island subway is still far behind.

The MTA plans to complete the North Brooklyn Subway by 2021, but there are plans to build a new subway in the Bronx by 2025.
